‘Cathedral to Nature’

John had seen the photo of the bear asleep on the iceberg. He was enthralled and then when he discovered it was part of the exhibition at the Museum of Natural History we had to go. As with everything else we bought our tickets online and set off. Of course, it was cold and wet, but with the words of Billy Connolly, ringing in our ears- “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing, so get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little.”- we set off. Rather than a sexy raincoat I bravely abandoned my hat for a beanie- how trite!!! I figured I couldn’t get lost in a building. Ha!!!!

What a building! It was worth the effort coming out, just to be in this magnificent edifice. According to Google, the architect, Alfred Waterhouse, designed this ‘cathedral to nature’ and from the imposing gargoyles on the façade to the most delicate interior detail, every element of his design pays homage to the natural world. Everything distracted us!!!

Eventually we made it to the Photographic Exhibition and then had to drag ourselves away and stop taking photographs of photographs. Really!! We are ridiculous!!!! I think all the images are online. Some are at this site. According to my own photographs, we arrived at the museum 1:52 and departed at 4:48. By that time we were completely overwhelmed. An absolute feast for the senses.

Of course, we deserved a pint and discovered the Constitution was just metres from our humble abode. To our delight they also had an ale pie and fish and chips with mushy peas. We indulged.
